An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale hit water area near Sukabumi, West Java, on Friday, at 10.42 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB).The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 8.06 degrees southern latitude and 106.91 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 10 km, around 126 km southwest of Sukabumi, or 148 km southwest of Bandung, West Java.
A mild tremor measuring 6.3 at the Richter scale rocked Sumbawa Island in West Nusa Tenggara Province on Friday.The quake was occurred at 4.58 am on local time, an attendant at the Denpasar Meteorological and Geophysics Body (BMG), Ketut Agus said when reached by phone from here. The epicenter of the quake was at 7.6 of the southern latitude and 17.29 of the eastern latitude or some 93 kilometers north of Sumbawa in 320 kilometers under the sea, he added.The quake was not triggering tsunami, he said.The rock was also felt in Mataram.So far, no damages or casualties were reported due to the quake, a spokesman of the Mataram District administration Lutfi said.(*)
