Jakarta (ANTARA News) – President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on the people on Friday to take heed of weather conditions when they were traveling, either on land, at sea or in the air because rainfall was expected to remain high up to next February.
“I hope our brothers will pay attention to weather conditions when they want to make trip using land, sea or air transportations,” the president said in a press statement after installing a new Indonesian Defense Forces commander here on Friday.
He also called on transportation operators to pay serious attention to the safety factor and give priority to the safety of passengers.
The Geophysics and Meteorologyl Agency (BMG) has issued a warning that rainfall will remain high until February so that the threat of floods and landslides was still high, Yudhoyono said.
“I also call on all officials of the National Coordinating Agency for disasters mitigation and regional government officials to take proactive steps in the face of the flood and landslide threats,” he added.
On the occasion, the president once again extended his condolences to the families of flood and landslide victims who had lost their lives.
Tens of people lost their lives in rain-triggered landslides in East and Central Java on Wednesday.
